The 2007 winners of fDi’s annual Personality of the Year awards were recognised at a ceremony in New Delhi attended by more than 300 people, including senior Indian government officials, business leaders, industrialists and the ambassadors of several foreign countries in India.

The awards reception, held at the Maurya Sheraton in New Delhi on August 31, and organised in conjunction with fDi’s Indian partners, JVDheldden, was followed by a dinner hosted by Confederation of Indian Industry president Sunil Bharti Mittal, who is also chairman and managing director of the Bharti telecoms group.

The fDi Personality of the Year awards recognise the political and business leaders around the world who have been the most proactive, dynamic and innovative in securing foreign investment and improving the business environments of their jurisdictions. Regional winners are selected for Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America. Out of these candidates a global winner is chosen.

The honorees for 2007 included: Kamal Nath, India’s minister of commerce and industry (winner for Asia and worldwide); Vincent Gadou Kragbé, chairman and CEO of VITIB technology park, and special adviser to the president of Côte d’Ivoire (winner for Africa); Andrus Ansip, prime minister of Estonia (winner for Europe); Sergio Fajardo Valderrama, mayor of Medellín, Colombia (winner for Latin America); Dr Khater Massad, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority in the United Arab Emirates (winner for the Middle East); and Henry M Paulson, US Treasury secretary (winner for North America).
