Germany’s Volkswagen leads the way in the automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) sector in terms of investment during the period from January 2002 to October 2004, putting $13.22bn into the sector. Close behind in the sample of 943 projects are Toyota ($11.55bn), DaimlerChrysler ($10.65bn) and General Motors ($10.18bn). Japanese car marker Toyota leads the way in terms of number of jobs created and number of projects: its 104 projects created more than 51,409 jobs worldwide. Its $1bn truck plant in Tijuana, Mexico, created 1500 jobs, and its $1.9bn investment in a joint-venture car plant in Kolín, Czech Republic, created 3000 jobs.
