Syngenta chairman Martin Taylor has expressed interest in the Swiss agribusiness company’s expansion in China.

In an exclusive interview with fDi Magazine, Mr Taylor described China as a potentially huge market for the company.

While he was cagey about the firm’s future plans abroad, and said it was not his place to make such announcements, he could not help but offer praise for the country.

He said: “China is trying to get this right. It’s definitely going to come. It’s just a question of how and when. Some of the traits [of genetically modified] seeds are very attractive to [the Chinese].”

Mr Taylor also praised Brazil’s recent advances in biotechnology and called the Brazilian model hugely impressive, though difficult for other countries to replicate.
