The latest fDi On Location video series takes a look at Botswana, a unique country in the centre of southern Africa. It is famous for its mineral wealth – underpinned by the diamond industry – and nature reserves such as the Okavango Delta. This is one of the world’s most sparsely populated countries. At independence, it was also one of the world’s poorest.

Progress has been made since then. Botswana has achieved steady growth and become a middle income country. The government has taken a lot of the wealth from diamonds and channeled that towards health, education, and other services aimed at development. However now they are looking
to diversify the economy.
