Endesa hydroelectric plant

Spain’s energy generating and distribution company, Endesa, is to invest $900m in building the El Quimbo hydroelectric plant in the south-west of Colombia. Of the total investment, $700m will be used to build the plant, which will be powered by the waters of the Río Magdalena. The remaining $200m will be spent on setting up the two sub-stations needed to transport the energy from the plant. From 2014 it will deliver 1650 kilowatt hours of electricity into the national grid. The power station and its reservoir will occupy a site between the areas of Garzón, Gigante, El Agrado and Altamira in the state of Huila.
