fDi Markets has uncovered a trend in the type of businesses entering the US market. Between January and December 2011, data shows that there has been a significant increase in the number of FDI projects in the US sales, marketing and support sector when compared to previous years. In 2011 there was a total of 1054 such projects, compared to 755 in 2010.

FDI project numbers in the US sales, marketing and support sector have been experiencing steady year-on-year growth since fDi Markets started recording data in 2003. In terms of the total number of projects between 2003 and 2011, the US sales, marketing and support sector has received fewer projects than the US manufacturing and business services sector, however.

However, annual project numbers in the manufacturing sector have never broken the 1000 mark, unlike the sales, marketing and support sector, which attracted 1054 projects in 2011.
