According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, average annual FDI inflows to Australia in the past six years were A$16bn. This compares with average annual FDI inflows for the previous six years (ending in June 2001) of just A$13bn.

The inflow of total investment (which includes portfolio, FDI, financial derivatives and other investment) increased by 25% in 2006-07 to reach A$177.8bn, and the stock of total investment was A$1,600bn, up by 18.5%.

The total stock of FDI in Australia rose by 14.3% from A$289.9bn in 2005-06 to A$331.4bn in 2006-07.
