Kazakhstan is set to become a larger player in the agriculture industry. The minister of economic development and trade, Kairat Kelimbetov, recently highlighted the sector as one that he would like to develop further.

He pointed out that the country is the ninth largest in the world, with ample room to become a larger food processor. The country is also one of the biggest exporters of wheat in the world, with close to 7 million tonnes per year.

Mr Kelimbetov said: “We would like to increase this because we have huge demand, for example, from the Middle East countries, and we have a good opportunity to export our agriculture production to Asian countries in the future, such as China and India, that will need it.”
