Data from greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets shows that there has been a gradual decline in the number of FDI investments in Belgium between 2007 and 2012. Following a peak in 2007, the number of projects, capital investment and jobs created have all fallen. Investment peaked in 2007, with 215 projects, $5.12bn of capital investment and 5754 jobs created.
Between January 2003 and January 2013 a total of 1346 FDI projects were recorded in Belgium, equating to a 0.9% share of global FDI. These projects represent a total capital investment of $22.05bn, which is an average investment of $66.4m per project. During the period, a total of 29,619 jobs were created.

Capital investment decreased in 2012 to $670.2m, registering an 87% decline on 2007. The number of projects registered a slightly lower decline of 62%, falling from 215 to 81. Job creation dropped by 85%, from 5754 to 850.
The US recorded the largest number of projects in the decade to January 2013. Its 359 FDI projects created 9058 jobs in the country in this period. Germany was the second largest investor in the country in terms of project numbers with 179, and France was third with 144.
