There were a record number of FDI projects in Benelux's (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) financial services sector in 2011, according to data from greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets. A total of 34 projects attracted $1.05bn of investment and led to the creation of 875 jobs. This was an improvement on 2010, when capital expenditure stood at $714m with 593 jobs created.

In 2009, FDI into Benelux's financial services sector recorded a significant drop in investment levels, with just $474.5m invested across 13 projects, resulting in the creation of 361 jobs. But the year-on-year increases recorded in the two years since suggest that investor confidence is returning to the region.
