Airtricity plans wind farm

Irish energy company Airtricity is planning to invest €800m to build a wind farm in the Tras-os-Montes region of north-east Portugal. The project will be developed in collaboration with Portuguese company Enerbaca-Energias Renovaveis and envisages an installation of between 400MW and 600MW. The wind farm will be built in the municipalities of Braganca and Vinhais in the next two or three years.

YIT invests in Leningrad

 

YIT (Finland) plans to invest €420m in the construction of a logistics terminal in the Leningrad Region. The complex, including 11 facilities, will occupy a 112-hectare area. It will have four logistics warehouses for handling and storage of home electronics, furniture, lamps and computers. It will also have two processing plants (coffee packing and sausage mass production) and disposal facilities.

MANUFACTURING

LG expands in Poland

LG has opened its third LCD factory cluster in Poland, a one-stop manufacturing centre that will allow LCD products and components to be produced and assembled at a single location. The South Korean conglomerate will spend about $1.08bn on a 1.5 million square metre area in Kobierzyce. It is optimising its global LCD production and distribution system to serve its European market better, which as of March 2007 accounted for 26.6 million units annually and 37% of the global market. The new centre will produce everything related to LCD manufacturing, from components to panels and TV sets. It will initially house four LG subsidiaries: LG Electronics, LG.Philips, LG Innotek and LG Chem.

New tyre facility in Hungary

Hankook Tire Co has started production at its new €500m European production facility in Dunaujvaros, Hungary. The facility is producing Optimo K415 and Optimo K715 tyres.

Estonian pulp builds at Pskov

Estonian Pulp is to spend €800m on the construction of a paper and paste factory in Pskov in Russia. Capacity at the new factory will be 450,000 tonnes a year of paperboard and 600,000 tonnes a year of paste. Also included in the investment is a bleached chemithermomechanical pulp (BCTMP, aspen-based) complex, which will have a capacity of 220,000 tonnes annually.

CONSTRUCTION

Balboa funds french housing

Grupo Balboa will invest $667m in a residential complex 45 kilometres from the city of Chateauroux in France. It will comprise houses, a hotel, a spa, a golf course and shopping zones among other services. It has been named Les Dryades.
