When the company opens its European headquarters in Switzerland this autumn, it will join the growing ranks of US firms including Kraft, Proctor & Gamble, Google, Electronic Arts and Yahoo! which have made the move from the UK to Switzerland in recent years.

Most have cited the UK’s complex tax regime as a reason for the move but McDonald’s has said the move will enable the firm to conduct the strategic management of key international intellectual property rights, including the licensing of those rights to its franchisees in Europe.
