Klipspruit project expansion

BHP Billiton PLC, the world’s biggest mining group, has approved the expansion of its Klipspruit project, part of its energy coal operations in South Africa. Capacity at the Klipspruit opencast mine will increase from 4.8 million tonnes to eight million tonnes a year. The company said it expects increased production at Klipspruit from the second half of 2009.
MANUFACTURING Emirates Aluminium Works
Emirates Aluminum LLC plans to develop a primary aluminum smelter with capacity of 700,000 tonnes per year in Algeria, in partnership with Algerian state energy group Sonatrach. Capacity could later be expanded to 1.4 million tonnes. The proposed smelter would be located in north-west Algeria on a 988-square-acre site in the new industrial and port zone of Beni-Saf. Emal is a 50-50 joint venture between Dubai Aluminum Co Ltd and Mubadala Development Co, a wholly owned investment vehicle of the government of Abu Dhabi.
IPI expands to Morocco
IPI Beverage Packaging System Iberia, a subsidiary of the Italian group IPI, has landed in the Moroccan market with the installation of several production lines in a juice plant of a local manufacturer.
Assembly plant venture
Chery Jordan Company, Al Hokair Holding Company and other companies are to set up a vehicle assembly plant in a group venture. Construction is due to start early this year in Jordan and it is estimated that production will start at the end of 2008. The plant will be constructed in four stages and its establishment will create almost 500 jobs rising to 2000 on completion of the project.

Flowserve new premises
Flowserve Corp, a leading global provider of fluid motion and control products and services, recently broke ground on its newest quick response centre located within the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This new location, to open at the end of 2008, will serve as the regional headquarters for Flowserve’s mechanical seal business in the Middle East.
CONSTRUCTION Unico hotel at Jumeirah Lake
Unico, a luxury brand of hotels that is part of the Spanish Rayet Group, has announced plans to open a 131-room hotel in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The $80m hotel is expected to open in early 2009.
