Conference agendas are often a good indicator of which subjects are exercising corporate concern. Several public and private sector forums in the next few months will be devoted to the environment.

On March 13 and 14, the World Resources Institute, an environmental think-tank, is scheduled to hold its sixth annual Sustainable Enterprise Summit in Washington DC. The theme of this year’s gathering is Ideas Into Action: How Business Leaders and New Markets Thrive.

On March 18, the fourth National Sustainability Conference is scheduled to take place in Bussum in the Netherlands. The conference will focus on Dialogue with Stakeholders and sustainability and social responsibility in business. Around 400 business leaders are expected to attend.

Other conferences and high-level meetings in the next few months that are likely to have an environmental impact are: the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ (Opec) 99th meeting in Vienna, Austria, on March 3; the third annual Arctic Gas Symposium in Calgary, Canada, on March 6; and the EU Environment Council ministerial meeting in Brussels on March 7.

Between April 28 and 30, the fourth ministerial conference on the protection of forests in Europe will be held in Vienna, Austria. The conference, dubbed the “Living Forest Summit” will be attended by delegates from about 50 countries.
