The number of such projects jumped by 191% from 11 in 2008 to 32 in 2009. Jobs and invested capital also increased in line with the rise in project numbers. In 2009 nearly 7000 new jobs were created along with $1.5bn invested.

Of the region’s countries, Mexico has received the largest number of aerospace investments every year since 2005. Last year was a banner year for the country with 10 projects. Bolivia received the second highest number of projects in 2009 with four.

The Latin American aerospace investments appear to come predominantly from US investors. For example, US companies Cessna and Nordam both expanded their operations in Chihuahua, Mexico, last year.
