The $300m plant will be located in Cheonan, 90km south of Seoul, and will start production of photomasks in early 2007. The investment plan comes nine months after the company opened a research centre in the area. The local market is driven mainly by South Korean companies such as LG Micron Ltd and PKL Corp, both of which are also building new plants.

Quintiq, a Netherlands-based software company, is establishing its North American headquarters in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Quintiq expects to have 10 employees in Greater Philadelphia within a year, and projects creating 30 jobs within the next five years.

 ShoreTel opens Offices:

 

 California-based VOIP company ShoreTel has opened further European offices in Munich, Madrid and the Benelux region. The expansion is in response to rising current, and expected future, demand for IP telephony and will serve growing international markets.

  

Mexican laptop manufacturer Lanix Technology is planning to open a second assembly plant in Chile this year, aiming to expand its coverage to neighbouring countries such as Argentina and Peru. It originally launched operations in Chile in April 2002.

 ON Semiconductor plans Taiwan Centre: 

 

 Arizona-based ON Semiconductor, a global supplier of advanced power management solutions, is to establish a solutions engineering centre (SEC) in Taipei, Taiwan. The SEC will develop advanced power management solutions for the computer power and power conversion markets and will be equipped with the resources necessary for local electronics manufacturers to tap into ON’s power management experience.
