In recent months, several companies have publicised plans to open offices and manufacturing plants in both continents.

MingYang Wind Power, one of China’s largest turbine manufacturers, announced it will set up operations in Dallas, Texas. This will be its first office outside of China and will serve both North and South America. More US plants are expected from the firm in future.

In another move, Chinese windpower equipment manufacturer Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology appointed Tim Rosenzweig as chief executive officer for its subsidiary Goldwind USA. Mr Rosenzweig will be responsible for developing the company’s business in the Americas region.

The US government is widely expected to focus more on clean energy following the Deepwater Horizon oil rig disaster.
