Foreign direct investment into Ireland has increased for the early part of 2011. The number of total projects recorded from January to April is at 71, compared with 53 for the same period in 2010.

There has been a considerable increase in the software and medical devices sectors, with 23 projects recorded in the first quarter of 2011, up from 13 recorded for the same period in 2010. This represents an investment increase of $558m.

Notable investments include those by US-based software firm Marketo, online business network LinkedIn and medical technology company American Medical Systems.
