Greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets shows that between January 2012 and December 2014, total investment from western Europe into the software and IT services sector into Poland has steadily declined from 14 projects in 2012 to nine in 2014. Capital expenditure and job numbers also dropped during the same period. Data recorded shows that in both 2012 and 2013, capital expenditure was $86m, whereas in 2014 this figure fell to $73m. In 2012, 942 jobs were created, which declined to 530 in 2014.

The number of individual western European companies investing in Poland has not shown the same pattern, however. It rose from 10 in 2012 to 13 in 2013 and fell in 2014 to  nine companies. The cities of Krakow and Warsaw attracted the highest number of FDI projects with seven each between 2012 and 2014.

These two cities both experienced a decrease in investment during this period: Krakow’s total declined from three projects in 2012 to one, and Warsaw from three to two. Data recorded from quarters one and two of 2015 suggests that the overall fall in FDI projects from 2012 is set to continue. However, capital expenditure and job creation seem to be on the increase despite lower project numbers. In the first half of 2015, companies from western Europe invested $130.6m in Poland and created 1326 jobs.
