The software and IT services sector generated the most investment projects in 2010, according to fDi’s annual Global Outlook Report.

Receiving 1378 projects around the world, the sector topped the list for the second straight year. In 2009 it received 1311 projects.

Coming behind software and IT was the business services sector, which recorded 1254 projects. While the figure was a slight decline from the previous year’s total of 1302, it was enough to move it ahead of financial services, which came third with 1243. In 2009 financial services was the second biggest sector with 1310 projects.

The industrial machinery, equipment and tools sector was a newcomer to the top five in 2010 with 757 projects.
