Between January 2005 and December 2009, fDi Markets recorded a total of 853 investment projects in the aerospace sector. The average number of jobs created per project was 173.

Sales, marketing & support accounted for the highest number of projects in the aerospace sector, with a total of 239 representing 28% of projects. Among the top business activities, logistics, distribution and transportation recorded the highest growth over the five years at 73% a year.

A total of 298 companies were recorded as investing overseas. European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) from the Netherlands is the top company, with 74 investment projects announced between January 2005 and December 2009. The top 10 companies accounted for 31% of the investment projects.

EADS also created the highest number of jobs, with a total of 23,405. The top 10 companies accounted for 48% of all jobs from the investment projects.

US thrives

The US accounted for the highest number of outward investment projects overseas, with 226 projects. This represents 26% of the investment projects. The country recording the highest growth in outward investment is Switzerland, with average growth of 127% a year.

A total of 82 companies from the US invested overseas during this period, representing 28% of all companies. The top 10 source countries accounted for 75% of outward investment projects and 65% of companies investing overseas.

Amsterdam is the leading source city for outward investment, with two companies providing 75 investment projects in the time period analysed. The top 10 source cities accounted for 36% of outward investment projects and 13% of companies investing overseas.

UAE growth

The country attracting the greatest number of projects was the US, with 131 inward investment projects. This represents 15% of inward investment projects. The country recording the highest growth in inward investment is the United Arab Emirates, with average growth of 69% a year. A total of 78 companies have invested in the US during this period, representing 26% of all companies investing overseas.

The top 10 destination countries accounted for 56% of inward investment projects. Singapore is the leading destination city, attracting 29 inward investment projects from 21 companies, followed by Dubai, Paris, Bangalore and Chihuahua.
