According to information from fDi Markets, 2009 saw a total of 14,190 projects with a capital expenditure of $1.01trn. Through the first 11 months of 2010 there have been 11,450 projects worth a total of $681bn.

When it came to destinations, the US, China, the UK and India remained in the top four spots respectively. Canada and Singapore were among the top ten after not reaching these levels in the previous year. Russia moved up the table to number five overall with 373 projects, replacing Germany which fell to sixth place with 366 projects. It was a particularly bad year for Germany which saw its project numbers decline by nearly half year on year.
