Software and IT services accounted for 20.27% of investment projects from the UK to North America between 2013 and 2015, according to greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets. The sector was responsible for 12.99% of jobs created and 7.96% of capital investment from the UK to North America in this period, but declined between 2013 and 2015. During 2013, 90 investment projects from the UK to North America were recorded, a figure that decreased by 34.4% in 2014. The trend continued in 2015 with a further decrease of 27.1%. Capital investment from the UK into North America in software IT services also declined during this period, falling 36.2% year on year from $759.7m. 

Total capital investment from the UK to North America decreased in the period by 32.3%, of which the decline in software and IT services accounted for 9.85%. Although capital investment and individual project numbers have trended downwards since 2013, job creation saw a recovery during 2015. fDi Markets recorded a decrease of 34.82% between 2013 and 2014, representing the creation of 1291 fewer jobs. However, 2015 saw 2432 jobs created in North America from UK FDI in software and IT services sector, an increase of 0.6%. Total job creation from the UK to North America decreased in the period by 15.22%. The decline in software and IT services accounted for 35.22% of this.
