Data supplied by fDiMarkets shows that Florida is the most popular US state for companies based in Latin America and the Caribbean to invest in. Between January 2003 and October 2011, fDiMarkets has recorded 45 such FDI projects in the sunshine state.Florida is ahead of Texas, which has received 34 projects in the same period, New York, which has received 32 projects and California, which has received 30 projects.

Latin American- and Carribean-based companies were most active in Florida in 2007 and 2008, when eight and nine projects were recorded, respectively.

As of October 2011, Texas and New York have received five projects each, one more than Florida, making them the most favoured destination states. However, there are still two months of fDiMarkets data to be recorded.

On closer examination of the fDiMarkets data, it can be noted that Brazil-based Embraer, a leader in the aerospace sector, has invested in four projects in Florida. These investments include the opening of a new manufacturing plant at the Melbourne International Airport in Melbourne, Florida in May 2008, which resulted in the creation of 200 jobs. More recently, in February 2011, the Brazilian company began the construction of a new customer centre at the same manufacturing plant in Melbourne.
