After a strong 2012, the opening four months of 2013 suggest that Myanmar will continue to attract increasing levels of inward FDI. A process of reform has been under way in the country since November 2010, when military rule was replaced by a new military-backed civilian government, and the growing levels of FDI suggest that investor confidence is being bolstered by this transition to democracy.

Data from fDi Markets shows that inward FDI has significantly increased over this period, with project numbers rising from five in 2010 to 10 in 2011 and 55 in 2012. In the first four months of 2013, 32 projects were recorded in the country, suggesting that 2012's total of 55 projects is likely to be surpassed in 2013.
