In 2011, there was a 57% increase in the number of FDI projects entering the US software and IT services sector compared to 2010. But, despite this increase, software and IT services remains the third most popular sector for FDI investments in the US behind business services and financial services.

The US software and IT services sector has witnessed year-on-year increases in FDI project numbers since 2006, but 2011's increase was the most significant yet. Data from greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets shows that the US was the most popular destination country globally for software projects in 2011, ahead of both the UK and India, which were second and third with 209 and 112 projects, respectively.
