The Switzerland-based mining company is planning to develop a mine in Australia. When finished, the mine should have the capacity to produce 6.7million tonnes of thermal coal per year.

Construction of the mine is expected to commence in late 2010 and extraction is expected by 2014.

Xstrata’s investment is $1.1bn and the project will create 350 jobs.
