FDI into the United Arab Emirates has been in decline since October 2012, according to data from greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets. In October 2012, 36 projects were recorded in the UAE, this figure declined to 31 in November, 27 in December and 22 in January 2013, representing a 39% decrease over the four-month period.

Between October 2012 and January 2013, investments from the US – the biggest investor into the UAE – peaked in November when 14 projects were announced. Investment from the country hit a low in January, however, when just five projects were recorded. Dubai was the most popular emirate in the four-month period, despite suffering a 36% decrease in project numbers.
