Asia as whole pulled in more than 30% of projects and Europe more than 38%. European companies dominated the scene, with 89 projects, followed by the Americas with 72. By country, the greatest number of projects (68) and the biggest number of jobs (5820) were created by US firms. Japanese Olympus was the top ranking firm by number of projects and Taiwanese company Formosa Plastics made the biggest investment in the sector, amounting to 66.7% of the worldwide total. Swiss firm Roche’s facility in New Jersey, US, is ranked as the top project. It will focus on molecular diagnostics to produce kits for blood screening.
