Chief economics minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati announced that Qatar Telecom will be allowed to buy a 65% share of Indonesia’s second largest mobile phone operator, Indosat, despite previously being limited to a 49% stake.

Under laws passed last year, foreigners are allowed to own only 49% of fixed-line telecoms companies and 65% of mobile operators.

The government has previously limited foreign ownership of Indosat to 49% because despite being primarily a mobile operator, the company also has a fixed-line business.
