Indonesia is establishing its first medical tourism special economic zone (SEZ) for medical and health tourism in a 41-hectare area in Sanur, Bali. 

According to Indonesian tourism firm PT Hotel Indonesia Natour, the government appointed the company as a development enterprise agency for the Sanur SEZ on November 1.

“With a variety of potentials that can be achieved in the future, the development of Sanur Health SEZ is a strategic transformative step that creates various added value, with which Bali and Indonesia will have tourist hubs new and become a global health centre of international standard, opening up a variety of new investment opportunities,” the company said on November 18.

The company expects the Sanur SEZ to be a “world-class medical and wellness centre” with an international hospital and accommodation facilities consisting of premium resorts, hotels and care homes. It expects these facilities to accommodate up to 5000 people in total. 

The development of the hospital in the SEZ is expected to come with cooperation between PT Hotel Indonesia Natour and the Indonesia Healthcare Corporation

The two companies agreed to the implementation of the integrated development plan of Bali International Hospital on November 18. The Bali International Hotel will also be located in Sanur SEZ, which Indonesia Healthcare Corporation believes to play a key role in attracting overseas visitors.
