South Korea-based companies carried out a significantly higher number of FDI projects in the first three months of 2011 compared to 2010.
A total of 62 projects were recorded on greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets during the aforementioned period in 2011 compared to the 2010 figure of 54.
This represents an increase of 14.8%. The top three recipients in the January to March 2011 period were India, China and the United States.
On a sector basis, Korea has been particularly active in consumer electronics, financial services and electronic components. More recently it has become increasingly involved in food and tobacco FDI projects, as the country has a high demand for food and not quite enough arable land to feed its population.
