With general elections slated in November, the government is wrapping up a reform programme that failed to gain significant traction against a challenging backdrop of falling copper prices and cost the president much of her political capital. However, finance minister Rodrigo Valdés tells Jacopo Dettoni, deputy editor of fDi Magazine, that it is important that the economy entered a transformation mode and believes a next, possible right-wing government led by former president Sebastián Piñera will not have the numbers to roll back some of Bachelet's iconic measures like the education and fiscal reforms.
