According to figures from real estate consultancy DTZ, Abu Dhabi has seen tremendous growth over the last 12 months and is rapidly catching up with its United Arab Emirates neighbour Dubai in terms of numbers of residential housing units.

Abu Dhabi’s total housing stock stands at 116,564 units compared with Dubai’s 202,504. Other emirates such as Sharjah, which has 145,706 housing units, and Al Ain at 55,382 are benefiting from rising residential rental costs and a shortage of available units for sale in Abu Dhabi and Dubai by providing alternative locations for residential accommodation.
