Telecommunications provision in Vilnius also outstrips that provided by rival cities, with 71% of the population owning a mobile phone and 21% having access to broadband internet. Call costs across eastern Europe remain higher; a one minute call from Vilnius to the US costs €0.44 per minute.

Vilnius has exceptionally low industrial rents of €14-€56 per square metre a year. Out-of-town rents are also cheap at about €91 per square metre, while space in the city’s many prestigious business centres can be about €210 per square metre a year.

The city has eight universities and a science and technology park providing research; and 23.3% of the adult population holds a degree.

Vilnius also scored highest in its category for housing, hospitals and international schools.
