Ghana is the gateway to West Africa and a consumer market of 250 million people. The Ghanaian economy has been built on an abundance of natural resources, including: large mineral deposits of gold, diamonds, bauxite, manganese and salt; fertile agricultural land; forests; and marine and fishing stocks. Ghana is the second largest producer of gold and the second largest exporter of wood and wood products in Africa. It is also the second largest producer of cocoa in the world.

Having achieved macroeconomic stability, the government is now targeting development towards priority sectors, such as infrastructure, in particular transportation, energy and ICT; modernisation of the agricultural sector; and improvement in health and education. At the same time, it is strengthening the private sector and improving the public sector to meet the needs of business better.

Numerous incentives and guarantees exist to attract investors, including low corporate tax rates, tax holidays, custom duties exemption for plant, machinery, equipment and parts, automatic immigrant quotas, and relief from double taxation for foreign investors. The constitution guarantees property rights.

In addition, the country’s English-speaking workforce is highly skilled, trainable and motivated. Infrastructure is sound and the cost of business is low.
