Oklahoma will derive 15% of its energy from renewables by 2015, due a recently passed law.

Called the Energy Security Act, the bill was aimed to expand the state’s use of clean energy. While this will include solar and geothermal energy sources, it is wind energy that is generating the most noise in the state.

Sandy Pratt, deputy director at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, says it is an ambitious target, but one the state can reach.

She said: “Right now we’re at 3% on renewables. But the incentives are there and we have the resources to do it.”

Her department claims that the state has the potential to eventually supply 9% of the US’s electricity requirements with its wind resources.
