Sarawak to get new plant

Japan’s Tokuyama plans to invest about $525.15m to build a plant in Malaysia to produce polycrystalline silicon, used to make semiconductors and solar cells. Production at the plant, located in an industrial park in the state of Sarawak, is due to begin in 2012. It will have an output capacity of 3000 tonnes a year. Tokuyama will consider boosting capacity to 8200 tonnes a year, while watching market conditions.
