The number of companies investing in software publishing, excluding video games, in the first 10 months of 2012 is down compared to the same period in 2011, according to greenfield investment monitor fDi Markets. There were 676 such projects recorded between January and October 2012, compared to 817 in the same period in 2011. There has also been a decline in the average capital expenditure, average number of jobs created and the number of companies investing.

A breakdown on the 2012 data shows that there were 232 software publishing projects in western Europe, 192 in Asia-Pacific, 114 in North America, 50 in Latin America and the Caribbean, 44 in the 'Rest of Europe', 23 in the Middle East and 21 in Africa. Western Europe has been the most popular destination for software publishing projects in both 2011 and 2012. The most popular destination cities for software publishing FDI between January and October 2012 were London, Singapore and Sydney.
