fDi Markets has tracked 503 projects for the year as of November 2009, compared with 617 by year-end 2008.

Project sizes have been declining over the past two years, however, as judged by headcount. After a high point of more than 10,000 new jobs created in the sector in 2007, the number fell to well below 5000 in 2008. To date in 2009, about 3600 jobs have been created. Most of the largest investors in the sector have slashed project numbers: Time Warner, the top investor in 2008 with 12 projects, has made six investments.
