FDI projects into Latin America grew by 32% in February 2011 compared with January 2011, according to data from fDi Markets. This represents the largest month-by-month increase in FDI projects recorded by any world region for this period, and dwarfs the 6% increase in FDI projects worldwide over the two months.
From February 2010 to February 2011, there was an increase in FDI projects into Latin America of 77%. Brazil accounted for almost one-third (32%) of all FDI projects recorded in the region in February 2011, with FDI projects increasing by 120% year on year into Brazil.

In February 2011, the communications sector performed the best with 15 FDI projects recorded into Latin America. This represented a year-on-year increase of 400%. FDI projects in the coal, oil and natural gas sector declined by 43% in the region from February 2010 to 2011, but FDI projects in the alternative renewable energy sector doubled over the same period.
