Following a record 2017, the bank announced its 69th shareholder on March 6 as the board agreed on Delhi’s membership two years after opening to China. Sir Suma Chakrabarti, president of the EBRD, tells Jacopo Dettoni this new membership is “a symbol” for what the bank stands for and will open opportunities to get Indian companies to invest in its regions of operations. Besides, he addresses the bank’s private sector agenda amid political headwinds in Central Europe and Turkey, and elaborates on his vision for investment and transition in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.
